1.  Recognize the fact of your sinfulness and the fate of that sinfulness.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23)

For the wages of sin is death…. (Romans 6:23a)

2.  Resign humbly to the fact that your sin’s fate is just and deserved.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. (Luke 18:13)

3.  Repent  - which is to turn from yourself, your sin and anything and everything you have depended upon for salvation and turn to Christ alone.

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

(Luke 13:3)

4.  Request by sincere prayer the salvation provided by God in Christ.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)

5.  Receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12)  Ephesians 2:8-9
